A new proclamation grants full pardons to all individuals convicted of crimes related to the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. It also commutes the sentences of 14 high-profile individuals to time served. The directive orders the immediate release of those still incarcerated and dismisses all pending cases. The move is framed as a step toward “national reconciliation” and seeks to overturn what is described as a “grave national injustice.”
