President Trump today awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to conservative activist Charlie Kirk, in a ceremony held in the newly renovated Rose Garden at the White House. The event took place on what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday, and was attended by family, including his widow, Erika Kirk.
In his remarks, President Trump lauded Kirk as an “American patriot of the deepest conviction.”
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally wounded in a targeted attack on the campus of Utah Valley University in September 2025.
